PART 1 | An HR Professional’s Guide to Addressing Organizational Risk Factors for Burnout

In today's organizations, burnout is a growing workforce challenge with real consequences for employee health, retention, and organizational performance. In this workshop, we’ll examine the shared responsibility of burnout prevention with a special focus on HR’s unique position to drive systemic, organizational change. You’ll explore the internal organizational risk factors—policies, structures, and cultural conditions—that HR professionals are positioned to identify, influence, and redesign. Through discussions and reflective exercises, you’ll leave with practical tools, such as a burnout risk assessment, and actionable strategies for proactive intervention. If you’re ready to move beyond reactive support and take a proactive, strategic approach to burnout prevention, this session is designed for you.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Distinguish organizational-level burnout risk factors.
  • Understand HR's sphere of influence on the risk factors.
  • Identify one concrete policy, process, or structural recommendation to address a specific burnout risk factor identified in their own organization.

This session will help the HR professional understand how burnout is largely a systems problem rather than solely a personal-resilience issue so that they can start treating it as an organizational issue. This shift places the HR professional in a business-focused role where they are using data-informed decision-making and analysis to operate as a strategic leader in addressing the policies, processes, structures, or cultural aspects that are high risk factors for burnout within their organization.
