Event Description

The HRPA Toronto Chapter is holding its annual ‘Executive Impact Forum’ virtually this year on September 17, 2020. This is its signature professional development event for senior members and business leaders. This year’s event is an engaging panel presentation with a moderator and 3 sets of panelists. The topic this year is “HR Business Partner: More than a Trusted Advisor” The discussion will be a fireside chat with Dr. David Weiss as a moderator and 3 HR professionals and their CEO or business-partner colleagues.

Speaker Bios

Dr. David S. Weiss

Dr. David S. Weiss, FHRPA, CHRE, ICD.D is President and CEO of Weiss International Ltd., a firm specializing in innovation, leadership, and HR consulting for many Fortune 500, social enterprise, and public-sector organizations. David has provided consulting on more than 1000 business and organizational projects, delivered over 200 conference presentations, and has written over 50 journal and trade articles. He is the author or co-author of seven books including Innovative Intelligence which was reported by CBC News as a “top 5 business book” in the year it was published. David currently teaches at three university executive development programs, including Schulich, Queens, and St. Mary’s University. David’s doctorate is from the University of Toronto and he has three master’s degrees. He is a Certified Board Director with the Institute of Corporate Directors and he has been honoured by HRPA with the honourary lifetime designation of “Fellow HRPA.”

Dr. Gary Newton, President & CEO, Sinai Health

Dr. Gary Newton assumed the role of President and CEO of Sinai Health in October 2016. A well-respected physician leader, Dr. Newton previously held the position of Physician-in-Chief of Mount Sinai Hospital from 2013 to 2015 and was appointed to the role of Chief Medical Strategy Officer and Physician-in-Chief of the newly formed Sinai Health System in 2015. Dr. Newton is a graduate of the University of Toronto Medical School. He completed internal medicine at the University of Toronto and trained in adult cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. In 2016, Dr. Newton was awarded the Robert Hyland Award for Excellence in Mentorship by the Department of Medicine, University of Toronto. 

Susan Brown, EVP, People & Culture and CHRO, Sinai Health 

Susan Brown is responsible for guiding and leading Sinai Health in valuing and supporting our people and working with all of Sinai Health’s leadership to foster a culture that brings out the best in our people, ensuring ‘no better place to work’. Susan has a Masters of Arts in Leadership and Organizational Change from the University of Guelph. She has also completed the Rotman Executive Leadership Certificate from the University of Toronto and the Executive Development Program from Queens University. Susan is pursuing her certification in Leadership & Performance Coaching. 

Steve Phillips, COO, Sovereign General Insurance

Steve Phillips holds the position of COO of Sovereign Insurance and EVP of The Co-operators Group Limited.  Steve has led a diverse set of Canadian and International financial services businesses for over 20 years.  He is fascinated with creating and executing bold transformational strategies.  He is committed to building and supporting high-performance teams.  Outside of work you can find him setting sail and navigating the waters of Muskoka.  

Jo-Anne Yanuziello, Vice President, Marketing, HR & Corporate Admin, Sovereign General Insurance, CHRE

 Jo-Anne Yanuziello is the Vice President, Human Resources, and Marketing at Sovereign General Insurance Company.  With senior HR leadership experience in Canada and the United States, Jo-Anne has a passion for helping create great work environments where people can be their best. In her spare time, Jo-Anne enjoys traveling and trying her hand at painting and sketching.

Monique Allen is EVP, Data & Technology at OMERS.  She is an experienced executive leader and change agent who advances digital business transformation. She has led several software and services businesses, including setting strategy, driving product and service innovation, leading new business pursuits, and ongoing portfolio management.
