During this event we will cover an over-view of our year in the Barrie & District Chapter at our Annual Business Meeting (ABM), followed by recognition of our newly designated members and our volunteers.

After the ABM, we will have our presentation Handling Tricky Terminations with Jonathan Borrelli .

Every HR practitioner will handle more than a few terminations. Once the employer has decided to terminate an employee, how do we expect the unexpected when Handling Tricky Terminations?

In this presentation, Jonathan will take you through a variety of scenarios, from the case law and from his own experience, to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to protect yourself and the company after the decision to terminate has been made.

The presentation will deal with termination with and without notice, benefit and bonus entitlement, human rights concerns, improper solicitation and communications, anonymous complaints, and more (including what to do if the employee refuses to leave the workplace).

Terminations may be tricky, but there are still fair ways to properly end the employment relationship.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the difference between a termination with notice, and a termination without notice; and the strategy in crafting the termination letter.
  • Identify legal and practical factors in an upcoming termination which can lead to legal liability, or financial / reputational exposure.
  • Discuss situations where it is appropriate to quickly reposition a tricky termination.

A “no show/late cancellation” fee will be charged if cancellation is not provided to chaptercancellations@hrpa.ca at least 3 business days in advance.

Registrations will NOT be accepted at the door.
