In recent years, hybrid work environments have been accompanied by an increase in conflicts within teams. According to the CPP Global Human Capital Report (CPP Inc., 2008), 85% of employees experience unavoidable conflicts at work. Some of these are related to specific pandemic-related issues, such as non-compliance with protocols. Others are indirectly related, such as a lack of civility during virtual meetings.
The lack of in-person contact in a hybrid work context has the effect of exacerbating conflicts, especially those related to tasks, age differences, group affiliations, or the varying expectations of team management skills for remote work, which can quickly escalate into relational conflicts. This phenomenon is what psychologists call the "online disinhibition effect." In a context where there is already a labour shortage challenge, it becomes necessary to take action to mitigate the negative effects of workplace conflicts and capitalize on the benefits of implementing strategies to address them.
But how can team cohesion be preserved in this increasingly virtual work environment? What are the strategies for identifying and better preventing team conflicts in a hybrid context? This is what we will discuss during this workshop.
