Navigating the HR Landscape in an Uncertain Economy - PART 1 Staying Resilient: Strategies for Navigating Challenging Economic Situations Without Immediate Layoffs

TIn part one of this two-part series, we explore how employers can respond to economic slowdowns without resorting to immediate layoffs. Beginning with a discussion of the broader economic context, we'll look at options for managing less activity in your workforce. This will include a review of the Federal Workshare Program, and also a range of other voluntary or temporary options employers can consider, including temporary layoffs. From there, we will discuss the legal risks associated with constructive dismissal that can come along with some of these options, helping employers understand how to take the best action to help the employer through a difficult time without unintentionally triggering legal liability.

Agenda:

12:03pm Speaker presentation

Kyle Shimon

In the course of his career, Kyle has successfully advocated for clients at the Ontario Labour Relations Board, Ontario Court of Justice, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and the Federal Court of Appeal. His approach to client advice involves taking a proactive approach to employee relations by guiding employers in managerial best practices, workplace policy development, and the use of employment agreements all with a view to avoiding issues before they arise. However, when problems do present themselves, Kyle is well versed in defending employers in alleged wrongful dismissal actions, human rights complaints, and a variety of other matters. Kyle advises employers, both in the defence sector and in many other industries, who appreciate his straight forward, down-to-earth approach in providing strategic advice towards resolving their human resources concerns.
