Conversations with employees are not always easy, particularly when they involve sensitive topics including: discipline and termination, unions and unionization, workplace investigations (including health and safety investigations and those involving violence and harassment), and human rights accommodations (including discussions regarding sensitive medical information and drug/alcohol addiction).
This workshop is designed to provide a substantive discussion of the law as it relates to each of these topics, including parameters around what information you are legally entitled to, and what is best left unsaid.

- Legal analysis and practical tips regarding navigating difficult conversations, including:
- Discipline and Terminations –what information an employee is entitled to and how to issue bad news in a safe and practical way
- Unions and Unionizations – the limits of employer free speech during a campaign or collective bargaining; Identifying traps often trip employers up
- Workplace Investigations – on-the-ground tips for conducting an exhaustive investigation and the legal consequences for cutting corners
- Human Rights Accommodation – understanding what information an employer is legally entitled to receive, and what an employer isn't

This workshop is applicable to Human Resources Professionals of all levels of experience. We will begin with basic legal principles, but will move towards higher level strategy and considerations which will have application to a great variety of people in the human resources profession.
