Michael Carré, Lawyer

Mr. Carré is a partner with Weaver, Simmons LLP. He was born and raised in Azilda, Ontario and is fluently bilingual. He is often called upon to represent clients in the French language. He is a graduate from Laurentian University. Thereafter, he went on to obtain his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) at the University of Ottawa. Michel articled with Weaver, Simmons LLP and returned to the firm in 2009 to practice in the areas of labour and employment law, which practice is restricted to the representation of employers and management. Mr. Carré provides legal advice on all aspects of human resources issues. This includes performance management issues, including workplace investigations, in addition to advice on severance and termination obligations. He is also called upon to draft, interpret and implement employment contracts and in particular, to enforce restrictive covenants. He also provides advice on human rights matters, in addition to Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) matters. Mr. Carré also works in collaboration with the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Group in order to provide guidance and advice on labour and employment issues and considerations surrounding mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Carré has extensive experience litigating cases at all levels. He has represented clients in the areas of wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal and other civil litigation, as well as litigating before administrative tribunals such as the Human Rights Tribunal, Labour Relations Board, Employment Standards Adjudicators, Workers Compensation Board/Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, Occupational Health and Safety Adjudicators and the Social Insurance Tribunal. He also has extensive knowledge and experience in representing clients in complex matters involving employee theft, fraud and dishonesty claims. In addition to providing general advice on managing the workplace misconduct, he has assisted clients in pursuing claims against employees in the Superior Court of Justice for the recovery of monies improperly taken.


Zachary Courtemanche

Zach, having been born in Sudbury and raised on Manitoulin Island, is a graduate of Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. His Juris Doctor was obtained in 2015 from the Robson Hall Faculty of Law, University of Manitoba. In 2015, Zach returned to Sudbury, where he completed his articles with Weaver, Simmons. In June of 2016, he was admitted to the bar. Today, Zach represents the interests of clients within the Firm’s Labour & Employment Law Group, focused on the representation of employers throughout Northeastern Ontario. Outside the Office, Zach is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying back country canoe trips within Ontario’s many provincial parks.
