Speaker bio(s)
Olivier  Lamoureux

Olivier Lamoureux is a partner in Gowling WLG's Montréal office, and a member of the firm's Employment, Labour and Equalities Group. In this capacity, he provides strategic advice to employers on issues affecting all aspects of labour and employment law, both in unionized and non-unionized settings. Olivier represents clients before all civil and administrative courts on a range of matters, including those related to labour relations, termination of employment, occupational health and safety, harassment in the workplace and professional liability. Olivier also has specific experience in the drafting, interpretation and application of non-competition and non-solicitation clauses and has developed over the years a strong background in federal labour law, particularly in unjust dismissal claims. Olivier also has a keen interest in privacy issues and regularly advises employers on the best practices to adopt in this regard.


Tushar Anandasagar

Tushar Anandasagar is a Senior Associate in Gowling WLG's Employment, Labour & Equalities Group. His practice focuses exclusively on the management side of employment and labour law. Tushar regularly assists clients across multiple sectors with a broad spectrum of issues, including day-to-day risk management, employment litigation, labour relations, collective bargaining, Ontario Labour Relations Board litigation, occupational health & safety, privacy, data security, and workers compensation matters. Tushar also regularly assists clients with employment and labour issues in the context of mergers and acquisitions.


Bettina Burgess, Partner

Bettina Burgess is a partner in Gowlings’ Waterloo Region office. Her practice focuses on employment and privacy law. Bettina advises Canadian businesses – from startups to established companies – on a wide range of employment and privacy related issues. She assists businesses with their draft employment or independent consultant contracts, confidentiality and work product agreements, policies, and handbooks. She also advises on methods of reducing employer liability and risk, employment standards, statutory compliance, human rights compliance (including accommodation and investigating allegations of discrimination), employee-related matters associated with mergers and acquisitions, and how to handle and structure a termination. She has defended wrongful dismissal actions and human rights applications from commencement to resolution through negotiated settlements or hearings. With respect to privacy work, Bettina assists companies with the development of privacy policies and procedures, drafting consents and acknowledgments for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information, and drafting third-party transfer and security agreements. She also advises on cross-border data transfers, employee background checks, and monitoring employees in and out of the workplace.


Neena Gupta, Partner

Neena is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Waterloo Region and Toronto offices. Her practice focuses on a broad range of employment and human rights matters. Neena has advised a broad range of employers, from start-ups to world-renowned multinationals on all aspects of employment law, including employment policies, offer letters, compensation plans, cross-border employment and regulatory compliance in Canada. She regularly advises employers on both compliance and litigation involving the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Canadian Labour Code, and Canadian Human Rights Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and the Employment Standards Act, 2001 (Ontario). She served for five years as a governor of the Law Commission of Ontario, which focuses solely on law reform and is currently on the Rules Committee of the Ontario Superior Court. She is a director of TiE Toronto, which is part of an international network supporting entrepreneurship. In 2002, Neena was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee medal in recognition of her service to the legal profession and the community at large. She is the president of the Canadian South Asian Club (Wellington-Waterloo) and the corporate secretary of TiE Toronto.


Melissa Roth, Partner

Melissa Roth is a partner in Gowling WLG's Waterloo Region office, practicing in the Employment, Labour & Equalities Group. Melissa works with private and public sector employers on a wide range of issues, including human rights, wrongful dismissals, employment contracts and policies, labour law, workplace investigations, and occupational health and safety. Melissa is a frequent speaker with employer groups and professional organizations. Outside of the workplace Melissa is a mom of 2 busy kids and they enjoy spending time outdoors with family from outback camping in the summer to snowboarding in the winter.
