TOPIC: Wellness Programming and Return to Work in a Police Environment

Join Holly Britton, CHRL, Manager, Member Wellness, Engagement and Support Unit at Durham Regional Police, for an inside look at HR in a policing environment. This session will explore the unique day-to-day responsibilities involved in supporting member wellness, engagement, and return-to-work programs within a high-pressure, service-driven organization. Holly will share insights into the complex challenges HR professionals face in this field — from psychological safety to operational readiness — and how meaningful wellness strategies make a lasting impact. She’ll also discuss what she finds most rewarding about her role and offer practical advice for students and early career professionals interested in pursuing HR within public service and policing.

Holly Britton, CHRP, CHRL, Manager, Health, Wellness & Safety

Holly Britton is a seasoned human resources professional with over 25 years of experience spanning both private and public sectors. She currently serves as the Manager of Member Wellness Engagement and Support at the Durham Regional Police Service, where she champions progressive and measurable wellness initiatives. Holly holds a Bachelor of Arts from Trent University, an MBA from the University of Fredericton, and maintains her Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation. Driven by a deep passion for health and wellness, Holly is a vocal advocate for innovative programming that supports mental and physical well-being in the workplace. She contributes her expertise to several influential committees, including the Ethics Committee and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the International Association of Women in Policing (IAWP), as well as the Anti-Stigma Advisory Table under the Mental Health Secretariat.
