Covid is having a profound effect on the world of work. Working from home has gone from an experiment to a necessity. Employees are juggling Home – Life balance in real time and the workday is becoming redefined as a few hours for work – a few hours for kids and a few hours for interactions with co-workers being driven by virtual meetings. The work hours aren’t compressed into a “work day” window. Employers don’t have the same insight on what their employees are actually doing.

Essential workers are working in a new physical environment. Even with the appropriate protections, they are “at risk” to some degree every time they go into a group setting. Questions being asked today that affect Total Rewards include: How many employees are going to go back to the “office” – should those at home have the same compensation plan as those in the office? Should the employer subsidize the cost of a home office? Will those returning to the office be predominantly women? What affect will that have? For those that work from home, will they move to an area that is more affordable? Will they make the same as people working in expensive urban centres? Should we move to a system that rewards accomplishment rather than hours worked for employees working from home? We will explore the up-to-date thinking on these ideas and others that are emerging for the future of your compensation strategy.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of the emerging concepts that will drive new practices in compensation post Covid
  • The impact on HR and your business operations of the trends we expect to see implemented
  • Some practical guidelines to assess what new ideas could benefit your organization and the new challenges they bring
