Toronto 06.08.21 VIRTUAL How to Conduct a Trauma-Informed Workplace Investigation

Kastner Lam LLP’s interdisciplinary team of lawyers and social workers will discuss how to bring a trauma-informed approach to workplace investigations. A trauma-informed approach can help minimize harm and re-traumatization in the investigation process and restore a workplace after an acute conflict. During this practical session, you will learn about the current legal requirements for a workplace investigation, as well as how to recognize and respond to trauma at key stages of your investigation.

Speaker bio(s)
Jesse Elders

Jesse provides practical and strategic advice to individuals and organizations in the areas of labour, employment, human rights and regulatory law. In her role as a litigator, Jesse brings skilled advocacy, empathy, efficiency, and creativity to her practice. Jesse also conducts workplace investigations and training. Before practicing with Kastner Lam LLP, Jesse was an associate at Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein LLP, a top-tier litigation boutique, where she had a broad civil litigation practice. Jesse received her law degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. As a law student, Jesse was awarded the Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP Prize for first-place standing in Contract Law. Prior to law school, Jesse earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree with High Distinction from the University of Toronto. Jesse is committed to improving access to justice and to innovation in the legal profession. In her spare time, Jesse volunteers with Pro Bono Law Ontario and the YWCA Hamilton. Jesse is called to the bar in Ontario. She provides legal services in both Toronto and Hamilton.


Daina Zweig

Daina Zweig, MSW, RSW As a law clerk and social worker, Daina provides essential services to the firm’s clients. Daina holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Yeshiva University in New York City. Prior to joining Kastner Lam LLP, Daina worked at the Refugee Law Office with Legal Aid Ontario where she worked on complex immigration files and detention issues. She is a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and volunteers regularly at WoodGreen Community Services as a mental health counsellor.
