In this Real Talk, Mark Wilson – EVP of HR and Labour Relations at Loblaw – will discuss how these challenges impact HR, and how to remain a responsive and agile retailer in the age of Amazon.

Presenter:

Mark Wilson, Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Labour Relations, Loblaw Companies Ltd.

HR in a High-Profile Bargaining Process

This past summer, the LCBO managed a very high-profile and media-publicized bargaining process with its union and employees – and not for the first time.

As a public-sector organization, the LCBO had some additional factors at play – namely, government and public stakeholders, the government’s labour reform agenda, a rapidly changing marketplace (with the introduction of grocery sales of wine, beer and cider) and the pending introduction of legalized recreational cannabis sales. So how can HR best handle such complex bargaining issues?

In this Real Talk, LCBO’s SVP of HR will discuss the organization’s experience during this most recent bargaining process, as well as best practices and key learnings.

Presenter:

Patrick Ford, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, LCBO

Topic: Building a Culture that Drives You

There’s no shortage of ink on how to build an award-winning company culture – and with the advent of the Googles and Facebooks of the world, we spend a lot of time thinking about the external trappings.

But culture isn’t just about foosball tables and free lunch – the true hallmark of a great culture is one that drives you forward and sparks your passion for what you do.

In this real talk, Roger Ryall, President of Auto Loan Solutions, will speak about building a culture that drives you forward. He will share thoughts about his innovative business model, and why Auto Loan is one of the fastest growing business units in the automotive industry.

Presenter:

Roger Ryall, President of Auto Loan Solutions Inc.

Space is limited to 28 attendees.

Roger Ryall, President, Auto Loan Solutions Inc.

Roger entered the car business at the age of 18, and has been in the industry ever since. With over 27 years of experience, he has ascended to the role of full-fledged entrepreneur.

He is the founder and President of Auto Loan Solutions where he manages sales teams, develops marketing strategies to reaches out to individuals in need of car financing, and tracking customer interactions to improve service. Being the visionary he is, Roger is looking to expand Auto Loan Solutions beyond Ontario, and grow the business to a national level.

Roger graduated from Georgian College with a degree in automotive marketing.

Roger's enthusiasm and energy goes beyond business. When he's not in the office, he enjoys sailing (as a member of the Port Credit Yacht Club (PCYC) and even does so competitively, regularly taking part in local regattas. Aside from sailing, he enjoys other activities, such as jetting off to exotic locales and hanging out with his two children.

Since his business caters to the subprime market, Roger adopts an approach that's unique within the industry. He felt his competitors were too focused on selling auto loans, rather than helping their customers. Recognizing that many of these individuals were given loans they couldn't afford, Roger decided to build a company that focused on the needs of the customer, which meant providing them with loans their income could support. As a partner of The Humberview Group, he shares their value of being honest the foremost- a rarity in the subprime auto loan market.
