Organizational decision-makers and HR practitioners are increasingly being required to provide evidence to support their decisions. This trend has excited HR researchers who historically have lamented the absence of research evidence to support HR practices.  As a result, the term evidence-based management has emerged to support effective decision-making by integrating critical thinking with the best available evidence. This presentation will define evidence and the different aspects of information that constitute it. Case examples of the effective use of evidence in HR will focus on hiring, training, and organizational change. It will identify the pros and cons of using evidence in HR decision-making as well as the optimal conditions for this approach. A step-by-step guide for effectively using evidence in HR practices will be provided as well as resources to support finding evidence.

At the end of this presentation, participants will:

  • Understand what evidence is and the different types of information that constitute evidence.
  • Understand the key considerations in order to make effective evidence-based HR decisions.
  • Know the primary sources of evidence and how to access them.
