New Dawn Enterprises President and CEO Erika Shea and Human Resources Coordinator Shane MacSween will provide members a walk-through of our recently adopted Reduced Hours Work Week. During our presentation, we will provide the audience some insight into:

1) The reasoning behind the project and the start of our 6-month pilot of the RHWW

2) How the RHWW is working so far--what is working/not working

3) What did this mean for our clients and how did they respond?

4) How can organizations follow suit if they are interested in exploring a RHWW

5) How HR Professionals can prepare for a RHWW

Shane MacSween

Born and raised on Cape Breton Island, Shane MacSween joined New Dawn Enterprises in 2022 as their first Human Resources Coordinator. Prior to joining the New Dawn family, he has worked for over 12 years in the healthcare sector as a recreation/wellness professional. Educated locally, Shane hold a Bachelor of Arts degree and Certificate in Public Administration from Cape Breton University, as well as an Advanced Diploma in Human Resources Management from Nova Scotia Community College. Shane is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources Candidate with CPHR Nova Scotia and is very exciting about working towards earning his full CPHR Designation.


Erika Shea

Hailing from Western and Central Canada, for the last decade Erika Shea has called Cape Breton home. Erika is the President and CEO of New Dawn Enterprise. Her role with New Dawn has allowed her to engage in the work of its various divisions and to meet the many bright and passionate people working to shift the course and shape the future of Cape Breton Island. New Dawn was incorporated in 1976 and is the oldest Community Development Corporation in Canada. Its work in the community is guided by its mission: to engage the community to create and support a culture of self-reliance. Today New Dawn operates businesses and projects in real estate, homecare, community engagement, residential care, seniors’ meal delivery, immigration, arts and culture, and local investment. Her great joy remains her two beautiful children, Frances and Charlie, and her partner Rob.
