Event Description:
This is going to be an amazing event. Bring your coffee as we have a fireside chat with Phil Wilson, who has had an incredible career in HR. We'll spend some time discussing Phil's career, what he learned, and his recommendations and advice for a successful, long, and fulfilling experience. We will also discuss the importance of mentorship and development.
This will be an open Q&A, followed by networking and making connections throughout the morning.
Phil was the former Chair of HRPA and actively involved in shaping the HR profession. His journey has navigated several decades of experience, in senior leadership roles, VP, CHRO, consulting and so much more!

Philip Wilson CHRE, ICD.D
Phil gained thirty years of progressively responsible experience in business & the HR field. Formerly VP HR Global for Englobe a company that acquired DST. Director Corporate Services (HR, IT, marketing & admin) formerly the Chief Human Resources Officer for DST Consulting Engineers Inc. where he was responsible for the quality and depth of talent that differentiate DST in the marketplace while supporting their ability to deliver on its’ strategic goals. At Felix Global he provided board governance consulting, coached executives, delivered career transition services and business strategic planning. Phil provided global leadership as VP H.R. at Corel Corp. As Senior Vice President H.R. CIBC Phil led a global team of HR professionals (125) responsible for CIBC’s executive leadership and training, organizational development, executive resourcing, talent management, global recruitment strategies, and business process outsourcing. He sponsored the implementation of PeopleSoft across CIBC and headed the HR function of CIBC WM’s Canada.
Prior to joining CIBC in 1994 Phil spent twelve (12) years with Northern Telecom (NT) in global strategic and operational roles within North America and Europe. His last position at NT was Director Organizational Development. Phil began his career in H.R. with CAE Electronics, Montreal. He graduated from McGill University with a degree in Industrial Relations and minor in Economics. He graduated from the Directors Education Program, Rotman School of Management University of Toronto.
In 2015 Phil was the recipient of the prestigious Canadian HR Queens University Award for Lifetime Achievement in the HR Industry. In the August 2006 publication of HR Professional magazine Phil was selected as one of 5 Stars of HR Innovation in Canada. He was awarded the Human Resource Professional Leadership Award 2005 in recognition of a leading senior human resources professional contributing to the advancement of the H.R. profession, through demonstration in their work of strong linkages between corporate strategies and H.R. initiatives. In addition, consideration is given to participation in community volunteer activities and involvement in the Human Resource Professional Association.
Phil served as the Chair of the HRPA board (2012 to 2015) & has chaired the Governance & Nominating Committee, the Human Resources Committee and the Audit and Finance Committees’. He is a founding board member of the Greater Toronto H.R Professional Association. He volunteered on the Board of the York University Human Resources Advisory Council and in this capacity chaired the York University H.R. Research Committee. He served on the York University Atkinson Management School Dean’s Advisory Board. Phil has been guest lecturer for the master’s Human Resources Program at York University as well as the MBA program at Carleton University. A past director of the board of Career Edge having served as a director of the board for 12 years. This organization is a private sector not-for-profit organization that launched in 1996 providing internships for graduates of all disciplines, persons with disabilities and internationally qualified professionals. Phil is supported by his spouse Marjolaine and proud father to two sons Alexandre and Nicholas. An avid swimmer and cyclist. In 2014 he competed in the Masters FINA World Swimming Championships.
