Neurodiversity is part of the larger 2022 mandate of diversity, equity and inclusion for all employees. In this program you will better understand the unique aspects of the neurodiverse individual. With this deeper understanding, the components of a welcoming workplace to the neurodiverse individuals will be introduced including workplace infrastructure, acceptable naming and nomenclature and most importantly how to build a strong team that welcomes and celebrates difference.

Learning Objectives

• Benefits of ND: The unexpected benefits of promoting neurodiversity in driving innovation, better understanding of customer base while enhancing the employee's sense of being seen as a unique individual.

• Identifying and Recognizing ND:  Neurodiversity will be discussed from a medical and neuroscience perspective so the invisible differences will be easier to recognize and support.

• Enhancing workplace infrastructure:  Office setup, staffing structures, and communications are examples of workplace elements that can be enhanced. Sensory sensitivity, movement needs, environmental tidiness, and challenges with paraverbal cues are some examples of issues to be addressed.

 • Words matter: The nomenclature and labelling of neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals is still evolving - clinical and social research is ongoing. How do we address the individual’s preferred language?

• Supporting others to support: It is important to support and nurture the journey of all individuals, teams and leaders in their ability to support the neurodiversity of colleagues, and/or of themselves. Training, education, and responsive environments are key element of a successful workplace strategy
