Topic Description:

This topic will discuss the value and ways of fostering Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in a changing workplace.  It will provide HR Professionals with an increased understanding of the various dimensions of diversity, the practice of fairness, how to foster championship, inclusion and a sense of belonging in the workplace.  It will also provide ways of how to overcome biases and how to help the organization make progress as it relates to EDI.

This session will cover the following Learning Objectives:

To develop an increased understanding of what Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) means in today’s work environment.

To be aware of conscious and unconscious bias and to know how this can impact the workplace.

To recognize why Human Resources’ innovation is imperative for an organization’s EDI transformation.

Janet Naidu

Janet is known as a dedicated and accomplished expert in the area of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). In her corporate role, she initiated, produced and implemented policies and educational programs on Employment Equity, Working in Diversity, Preventing Violence in the Workplace, Preventing Harassment and Discrimination, Preventing Racial Profiling, among others, including video-based training programs for organizational transformation. She has helped to foster ongoing awareness and action on strategies to integrate equity, diversity and inclusion in human resources and organizational strategies. She implemented methods of addressing workplace conflicts and attention to issues of concerns. As a Consultant, Janet helps clients to develop Diversity and Inclusion strategies while linking Equity into their corporate strategic vision, to build on their annual diversity program initiatives and to develop creative solutions aligned with corporate values. She has helped clients explore issues on gender equality, anti-racism, anti-oppression and identification of systemic issues and to help them understand the cycle of prejudice, how certain belief systems, unconscious bias and stereotyping can affect engagement and trust, and can result in perceptions of exclusion. She has helped clients to explore and obtain a deeper understanding of their organizational culture through cultural assessments, identifying barriers, and recommending progressive goals. She also provides training services to help organizations value the strengths of an inclusive workplace culture. Janet is also known as a Human Rights Investigator, conducting and leading human rights investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination and poisoned environments. She brings a broad knowledge and experience in dealing with issues concerning gender, anti-racism, anti-oppression, sexual harassment, disability, and other Human Rights protective grounds as well as violence in the workplace. Janet brings more than 25 years of experience in the human resources environment and in a unionized setting where she co-chaired Union-Management committees on collaborative workplace issues such as Pay Equity and Employment Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. She has facilitated resolutions to difficult workplace challenges and disputes. She has also delivered specialized training to leaders, managers and staff on positive workplace restoration practices. Janet served as the Manager of Diversity Management and Ombuds Office at the LCBO from 1991 to 2012, and currently is the Executive Director of HR Diversity Solutions. Janet holds a BA in Political Science and Caribbean Studies from the University of Toronto and an LL.B from the University of London (UK). She has also achieved The Osgoode Certification in HR Law for HR Professionals. She is also a Certified Coach in the area of life skills, as well as in career transition.
