Change Isn't a Four-Letter Word – presented by Laura Barker

Most leaders know that change is inevitable. So what stops leaders from welcoming it? In this session we will explore humanity's natural resistance to change and why now, more than ever, we need leaders who are master change agents. We will learn how to greet resistance with a positive mindset and embrace growth at difficult times. We will also dig in and dive deep into understanding your own superpowers when it comes to championing growth.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the latest legislative updates in employment law, particularly to the Employment Standards Act;
  • Learn about the latest employment cases that have changed the landscape of employment law;
  • Discuss with colleagues how to adapt HR practices to comply with these changes.
  • Develop Change Management Skills - Honing essential change management skills like critical thinking, decision-making, negotiation, and influencing are important ways that HR can address employees' emotional journeys and provide a roadmap for transitions.
  • Cultivate a Positive Mindset - Leading by example, HR leaders build resilience by adopting a solution-focused, positive approach to challenges. They embrace emotional intelligence and use effective and inclusive relationship-management strategies.
  • Foster a Learning Culture - To promote continuous learning and growth, HR professionals can assess and support a company’s capacity for change adoption and develop strategies to address barriers. This may involve training and resourcing managers to execute change as well as equipping them with new problem-solving skills that provide a more fulsome view of any given situation.
