HR Power Lunch: Five Competencies for Becoming a Psychologically Safe Leader

Workplace mental health is top of mind for more boards, CEOs, and senior leaders since the pandemic. This is happening because of the growing understanding that workers’ mental (behavioural) health is related to retention, attraction, disability costs, productivity, sustainability, and workers’ quality of life. This understanding has increased focus on psychological safety and health (PSH). PHS goals are to drive out fear and create inclusive, welcoming cultures where employees feel a sense of belonging, valued, and purpose. Employers are discovering leaders’ critical role for protecting workers from mental harm and promoting mental health.
This presentation will introduce leaders to five competencies and their key performance behaviours (KPBs) for becoming a psychologically safe leader. Dr. Howatt is a leading international expert in workplace mental health with an extensive background in leadership development and executive and team coaching for leaders to create psychologically safe workplaces.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand workplace psychological health and safety and the leader's role.
  • Explore five core competencies and KPBs that facilitate psychologically safe leadership.
  • Discover how leaders can move towards psychologically safe leadership, one interaction at a time.

Workplace Harassment: The Law. The Investigation. The Consequences.

There is one issue that consistently strikes fear into the hearts of HR professionals - dealing with a workplace harassment complaint. There is good reason for this. Workplace harassment is complicated. Complaints raise serious issues that must be dealt with quickly. The pitfalls of running a poor investigation are real. Complaints therefore always raise many questions - Who should investigate? What do we do with the complainant? With the accused? Who do we speak with, and how? How do we respect people's privacy, and their reputations? Is this really harassment? And what happens if I get it wrong? The good news is there are answers to all of these questions, and more. In this seminar Hendrik Nieuwland will provide you with the guidance and information you need to effectively and confidently handle your next workplace harassment complaint.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Attendees will learn the current state of the law in Ontario regarding workplace harassment.
  • Attendees will learn how to conduct a proper workplace harassment investigation.
  • Attendees will learn about the consequences when a harassment investigation goes wrong.
