Employers often need foreign talent, whether from their own foreign affiliates, or from outside their organization. Further, the Canadian immigration system has undergone, and continues to undergo, significant changes over time, which HR personnel need to be aware of in order to effectively achieve their goals.

In addition to the already complex and ever-changing system as set out above, Canada has recently created a number of new initiatives that HR should be aware of, including various streams for talent in the Tech sector, among others.

Attendees will leave with an understanding of the ‘big picture’ flow of the immigration system, as well as an understanding of the nuanced issues within the system that can make or break an application – along with strategies on how to overcome the obstacles.

Learning Objectives

  • This program will provide HR personnel of all levels an understanding of the overall structure of the Canadian immigration system (vis-à-vis temporary work permits)
  • Participants will be provided with background on what Labour Market Impact Assessments  (LMIAs) are, why and when we need them, considerations within an application, and other aspects of the LMIA program
  • Participants will be provided with information on situations where activity in Canada is permitted without the need for a work permit
  • Participants will leave with an understanding of some of the more common work permit exemption categories, and how and when to use them (with a particular focus on business visitors)

Who should attend this program?

All levels of HR professionals, from working level to directors and above. Whether a leader or part of a team, this program will be valuable.
