Learning Objectives/Learning Outcomes:
This activity will not only give a platform for students to hear first-hand knowledge from those in the industry who have just started their HR profession, but also from those who started their career a while ago and are more seasoned when it comes to searching for new opportunities. After hearing these experiences, the students are now more equipped to make proper judgements when they apply to new roles in the HR field, if they feel that any opportunity is for them or if they want to focus on one function over another. They can also use others experiences to expand on their own and pass it along to other HR professionals when they have found success in the job search.
- Students will gain knowledge on how to either narrow or broaden their job search. They can have a better understanding of the pros and cons that come with applying for their first job and the types of jobs to look for or not apply to
- New HR practitioners will hear first hand experience from current HR professionals so they are equipped to search for jobs with actual insight from within the profession instead of searching for roles blindly
- New HR practitioners will learn what to look for when applying to large companies versus smaller companies, what those companies can offer for their career in different ways, and to keep an open mind
