Sexual orientation and gender identity are consistently under-represented in HR's diversity and inclusion conversations. The impact is that 53% of LGBT employees hide who they are in the workplace, resulting in low engagement and underperforming teams.

The LGBT Workplace Inclusion Certificate from Pride at Work Canada teaches HR professionals the fundamental information they need to build inclusive environments that increase community, engagement, and retention at their workplaces. Offered 100% online, in a self-paced format, the LGBT Workplace Inclusion Certificate is a must-take professional development course for all HRPA certified HR professionals.

The LGBT Workplace Inclusion Certificate is an asynchronous online course designed for employees to create inclusive environments for themselves and their coworkers. In the course, employees will gain an understanding of the basic elements of LGBT inclusion, how organizations can leverage these concepts to create safer and more inclusive workplaces, and how you can create change in your own workplace by creating an employee resource group, engaging allies, combating biphobic, homophobic and transphobic bullying and more.

Learning objectives:

  • Be confident with the vocabulary and terminology associated with LGBT identities for use in Canadian workplaces
  • Distinguish gender identity from gender expression in relation to sexual orientation and sex assigned at birth
  • Know what LGBT discrimination, harassment and bullying looks like in the workplace and understand how and when to intervene
  • Learn how to be an active and engaged all who confronts biphobic, homophobic and transphobic behaviour with effective conversations to transform workplace culture
  • Structure an Employee Resource Group for LGBT members and measure its success
  • Explore how this information relates to best-practices in workplace and employment policies in Canada"
