While some employers use drug and alcohol testing to enhance workplace safety, it represents a collision between workplace requirements and employee human rights and privacy rights. It may also discriminate against people with addictions, which is considered a disability protected by the Ontario Human Rights Code. This webinar examines the human rights implications of workplace drug and alcohol testing.

Learning objectives:

<  The Ontario Human Rights Commission’s (OHRC) perspective on the current state of the law in Ontario related to drug and alcohol testing

<  The human rights of an employee or job applicant when it comes to drug and alcohol testing

<  The employer’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code when it comes to designing and implementing drug and alcohol testing programs or policies

Who should attend:

Employers who employ people in safety-sensitive positions, and unions and employees in these workplaces, lawyers and human resources professionals. Employers who are thinking of setting up testing, or trying to accommodate people with substance addictions may also find it useful.
