Speaker bio(s)
Athan Makrinos

Employment lawyer and litigator, Athanasios (Athan) Makrinos, learned the value of working as a team through his passion for sports while building his perseverance and discipline. Athan now uses his leadership skills to zealously advocate on his clients' behalf in order to secure a win.

If you need a workplace lawyer with real advocacy experience, Athan offers that skill. With an extensive background in litigation, Athan joined Whitten & Lublin to pursue his passion in employment law and to help his clients maximise their results. From the beginning of his legal journey, Athan’s practice and passion has always focused on employment law and commercial/civil litigation. Prior to joining Whitten & Lublin, Athan honed his employment law skills at a boutique downtown law firm where he gained invaluable experience in handling complex litigation disputes.

Through his practice, Athan has appeared before all levels of court, including various tribunals, such as the Ministry of Labour and Human Rights Tribunal, the Superior Court of Justice and at the appellate level.

Prior to commencing his career as a lawyer, Athan completed his law studies at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and graduated with a Canadian and an American Juris Doctorate degree. It was during his time in law school that Athan found his passion for litigation as he was selected as a Community Legal Aid Student Litigator in his first year of his studies (a role he held throughout his law school tenure).

Outside of work, Athan enjoys watching and participating in many sports. During basketball season, you will often find him at a Toronto Raptors game cheering on his favourite team or on the courts of Toronto, honing his jump shot. If he is not watching or playing sports, Athan is out exploring this great city and everything it has to offer.
