This interactive and engaging presentation will include an update on recent court and tribunal decisions and legislative updates that are important to HR Professionals including employment law, labour law, attendance management, mental health and WSIB, managing social media risks and Human Rights update.
Speaker Details:
Stephen Goodwin has appeared extensively before the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB), the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT), the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO), at labour arbitrations as well and in the courts defending wrongful dismissal claims. Stephen has in-depth expertise in collective bargaining, having bargained over 50 collective agreements including first contracts. He provides advice and guidance to companies in purchase and sale transactions, restructuring and closures. Stephen has particular expertise in construction labour law, social services and union organizing and certifications. Stephen provides practical advice for employers’ ongoing practices and policies to assist them in managing compliance and reducing risks involved with today’s complex labour and employment laws.
Nicholas Smith obtained his Juris Doctor from Queen’s University Faculty of Law. While at Queen’s, he competed for the Tortfeasor’s rugby team and volunteered for a local heritage preservation organization. Nicholas has a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Geography and Economics from the University of Toronto as well as a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy from the University of Cambridge. Nicholas summered and articled at a full-service law firm in Toronto before joining Hicks Morley in 2018 as an associate.
Kathryn Meehan graduated as the gold medalist from the LL.B program at the University of Western Ontario and subsequently obtained her LL.M. from the University of Cambridge, England. Prior to joining Hicks Morley, she completed her Master’s of Industrial Relations at Queen’s University and subsequently worked and taught in the field of human resources. Kathryn spent her articling year as a Clerk at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Kathryn is very active in her community. She is a frequent speaker on human resources law-related topics. She has been a part-time faculty member at Fanshawe College, Conestoga College and the University of Waterloo in the Human Resources Management programs.
