Speaker bio(s)
Peter Landers, Partner

Peter Landers is a Partner at Global Governance Advisors. He supports Boards and senior management at public pension funds as well as public and private organizations with technical insight in the areas of Executive Compensation, Human Resource Strategy and Corporate Governance. Peter’s work focuses on forward looking governance practices and risk management as well as provides education to key stakeholders on complex compensation systems. Peter specializes in the strategic evaluation of compensation and corporate governance programs including business strategy, compensation philosophy and executive pay alignment, incentive design and valuation, compensation risk audits, and board education, which support clients’ organizational strategy and objectives, as well as shareholders' interests. He possesses strong analytical and research skills and widespread knowledge in general practises of compensation governance and methodology. Given his vast experience, Peter has also been asked to share his insights in the media and on industry panels. Peter holds an Honors Bachelor of Business Administration degree, from the Schulich School of Business at York University, where he specialized in both Finance and Accounting, and graduated with distinction.


Susan Black, Former SVP, People, Holt Renfrew

As a member of the executive team of Holt Renfrew, Ms. Black is responsible for all aspects of human resources ranging from recruitment, talent management, and employee relations to compensation and benefits. Holt Renfrew is the ultimate destination for luxury, style and fashion in Canada and has been curating the best of luxury products and the latest in fashion from around the world for over 180 years.


Previously, as a Managing Director at Crossbar Group, she advised corporations and professional services firms on how to enhance their diversity and create and sustain inclusive workplaces. Other past roles include CHRP at Intact Financial, Canada’s largest property and casualty insurer and President of Catalyst Canada, a leading non-profit whose mission is to advance women in business.


Ms. Black’s board experience includes Gore Mutual Insurance, York University, North York General Hospital, Metro Toronto Housing Authority and Ontario Housing Corporation.


Ms. Black holds a PhD in Organizational Studies from York University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a BA from Yale University.



Deborah Rosati

Deborah Rosati is an accomplished corporate director, entrepreneur, Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA) and certified Corporate Director (ICD.D) with more than 30 years of experience in technology, consumer, retail, private equity and venture capital. An experienced Audit Committee and Nominating & Corporate Governance Committee chair, Deborah provides extensive knowledge as a Corporate Director in the areas of financial and enterprise risk management, corporate strategy, transformational changes, M&A, corporate governance and CEO and board succession planning.


Currently, Deborah’s corporate engagements are as a leading and serving Corporate Director and Chair of the Nominating & Corporate Governance Committee for Sears Canada (TSX: SCC), as a Corporate Director and Chair of the Audit Committee for NexJ Systems (TSX: NXJ), a member of the Department Audit Committee for Correctional Services Canada. She is also a Co-Founder of Women Get On Board, a member-based company that connects, promotes and empowers women to corporate boards. Deborah’s community engagements include serving as a member of her alma mater’s Goodman’s School of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and she launched the school’s Deborah E. Rosati Entrepreneurship Award..


Deborah is a frequent speaker on corporate governance, board diversity and entrepreneurship.


Selected as a Diversity 50 2014 candidate, she was also recognized in 2012 as one of WXN’s Top 100 Canada’s Most Powerful Women in the corporate director award category. She was Chair of the Nomination Committee and the Chair of the Board for the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, and also the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee for Canada’s National Ballet School. In addition, Deborah was also the Co-chair for the Ottawa Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors and is a former member of CPA Canada Risk Oversight Governance Board.

A former senior Deloitte consulting/financial advisory partner who is currently applying his financial expertise and negotiation skills in a variety of challenging interim management assignments and industry positions, Brent Houlden is currently managing partner of CR Advisors.


Brent is an operator and strategist with a wide breadth of management skills and expertise in public and private companies, government agencies and not-for-profit organizations both in Canada and the United States. He is a creative leader who has hands-on restructuring experience and is able to lead business transformations.
