Accomodating Mental Disability In The Workplace HR practioners are used to the issues and challenges around accommodation in the workplace. An increasing number of cases revolving around accommodating mental disabilities are being presented. While the concepts may be similar the practical challenges vary greatly. Doug will provide an overview of existing case law, his views on where the law may be heading and pragmatic strategies to effectively manage these circumstances.

Doug MacLeod is the principal of MacLeod Law Firm, a Canadian Labour and Employment Law Firm.
Since 1989, Doug has focused on providing advice and representation on employment law issues, including employment contracts, human resource policies dealing with employment standards, workplace safety and human rights, wrongful dismissals and harassment complaints. He prides himself on timely, cost effective solutions to clients’ employment law issues.
Doug prides himself on understanding his client’s business so that he can provide practical legal advice that is consistent with the organization’s values and strategic plans. He answers his own phone and he usually answers questions on the spot without the need to research an issue because of the knowledge, experience and judgment he has acquired over the past 25 years.
Doug has appeared before the Ontario courts, The Human Rights Tribunal, and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. He has taught Law Society of Upper Canada’s Continuing Professional Development Course and is a frequent speaker to associations and professional groups and regularly publish articles on all aspects of employment law.
Doug is a graduate of the Queen’s University Faculty of Law and holds an HBA from The Richard Ivey School of Business. Prior to founding MacLeod Law Firm in 1993, Doug worked with the Toronto law firms of Genest Murray Desbrisay Lamek and Osler, Hoskin &Harcourt LLP. Doug sits on the board of the Georgian Nurse-Practitioner Led Clinic and is active with the Parkinson Society.
